Swedish lessons: individual or group

Do you want to improve your Swedish? Then you might find my tailor-made Swedish lessons helpful. The content is based on an analysis of your specific challenges (based on The European Council CEFR scale) with the aim to create a lesson package that fits your goal and ambition. I aim to help you feel confident when speaking Swedish.

Advantages of Swedish lessons at AK:

•Improve pronunciation, vocabulary and ability to express yourself

•Flexibility: you may choose time, place and number of lessons

•Lesson set up according to your goals with experienced teacher

•Understand Swedish culture with its typical expressions

There are many advantages to speaking good Swedish. First of all, it makes it easier for you to integrate into our society and to perform well in your profession. Secondly, my belief is that your ability to network increases as your ability to receive and communicate information in the native language improves. Finally, I would also emphasize the significance of understanding and participating in Swedish culture, which inevitably manifests itself in the way we reason and speak in our country.

The lessons are based on a well-balanced mix of theory and practice that improves your pronunciation, conversation, writing and grammar. If there is something you want to focus on more specifically, we will do so. To ensure that you are satisfied, you always have the opportunity to try an introductory lesson, after which you decide whether you want to move on with a lesson package or just pay for that first lesson. Place and time will be determined according to your wishes.

Advantages with our Swedish tutoring

Do you feel that your pronunciation is not quite as good as you want it to be? Have you participated in SFI or other online courses, but still struggle to really speak Swedish? Don’t worry, you are not alone! In fact, it’s quite common that Swedish learners don’t progress from an “I understand most of it” level to fully communicating and feeling confident when they speak. In this post, I will address three reasons why this occurs and how our set-up is made to deal with these exact problems that arise.

Tailor-made lessons

First of all, we are not saying that there can be many advantages to group courses. It can be social, educational, and fun. However, every student has their own challenges and goals. If your mother tongue is Mandarin, your language knowledge and challenges will not be the same as if you are a native Spanish speaker. Besides, you may not have the same goals as other students. Some students may want to learn about Swedish culture through its typical expressions while others want to strengthen their professional Swedish. And others might want to do both! That’s why we always produce a tailor-made set-up according to the backgrounds and goals of each student.

Swedish conversational focus

The more we articulate and repeat a language, the better we become at speaking it. But the bigger a group is, the less time there is for each student to talk. Group courses often focus on grammar exercises and vocabulary. While grammar and vocabulary is important, many students in group courses say that they still lack the ability to talk with native Swedes. even after participating in group courses. For these reasons, we focus on our lessons on conversation with relevant grammar as an integral part of the talking exercises. Our goal is to create a “communicative competence” in our students: to be able to socialize with natives without misunderstandings. or needing to repeat yourself, etc.

Swedish pronunciation

Another dimension of your Swedish learning that may be missing in group courses is the practice of articulation, intonation, and pronunciation. Since you’ve been saying words and letters a certain way all your life, it’s difficult to change your pronunciation to these new sounds. In fact, to achieve good pronunciation, you will have to do a lot of repetition, preferably with someone who can guide and correct you as necessary.

Lastly, our experience as rhetoric consultants and speech coaches will hopefully give your learning another dimension by applying the fundamentals of rhetoric – to talk and argue well in relation to a cultural context – into our tutoring. With these aspects in mind, we hope to give you the confidence you need to speak Swedish well.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or thoughts.
